Samsung announces massive 110-inch 4K TV with next-gen MicroLED picture quality

O'er the live on couple geezerhood, Samsung has showed off (and sold-out to a very privileged few) its futuristic, modular TV dubbed The Wall that uses MicroLED technology. MicroLED shares many of OLED's best traits — without most of the connected drawbacks — and is wide viewed as the next big upgrade jump on for the displays in our lives. Right away, Samsung is taking MicroLED and putt information technology into a more traditional TV configuration factor. Today the fellowship announced the 110-column inch MicroLED TV, which goes heavenward for presale nowadays in Korea and leave launching globally in the start stern of 2021.

As for the first dubiousness that probably comes to mind, no, Samsung isn't yet revealing a toll for this big TV using the latest picture applied science. But you can expect it'll monetary value far more than any of the company's past 4K (or even 8K) sets on report of the self-emitting MicroLED magic. You won't really notice any bezels or borders in these images; this TV has a 99.99 percentage riddle-to-body ratio, but Samsung inactive managed to build in "an embedded Lofty Stable System" that it claims "delivers breathtaking 5.1 canal sound with no more external speaker."

Here's what Samsung says about picture quality:

The 110-inch MicroLED uses micrometer-sized LED lights to get rid of the backlight and coloring filters utilized in conventional displays. Instead, information technology is self-illuminating — producing light and color from its own picture element structures. It expresses 100 percent of the DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut, and accurately delivers broad-brimmed gloss gamut images taken with high-end DSLR cameras. This results in stunning, lifelike colors, and accurate light from the display's 4K resolution and 8 zillion pixels.

Since all those LEDs are mortal-illuminating, you get the perfect blacks and fantastic contrast that have come to delineate OLED. But crucially, MicroLED is inorganic and thus should experience healthier long durability. There shouldn't be whatsoever terror of fire in, which is already acquiring rarer connected modern OLED TVs. Samsung estimates a lifespan of approximately 100,000 hours — or "capable a decade." In the caseful of The Wall, those MicroLEDs are put into modular panels that can represent conjunctive to create a TV of beautiful much any size — if you've got the cacography to earnings for it. Hera's ane example of The Wall that was installed in a luxury London home. Merely the 110-in TV is a more time-honoured form factor.

As for whether the 110-edge MicroLED includes HDMI 2.1 and supports altogether the things that it makes possible (like 120Hz 4K play), I've asked Samsung. but an answer wasn't for sale at press meter. One neat software trick is the power to simultaneously vigil upwards to four sources of placid (even from different HDMI inputs) with the TV's Multi Position feature.

Samsung says that manufacturing a 110-column inch MicroLED Telly wasn't attainable until Recent innovations, and the company credits "a new production process derivable from its semiconductor business" as serving to survive possible. Smaller MicroLED TVs are already connected the roadmap, so while this affair is certain to take a price that's out of reach into for many people, someday thither leave cost models that won't be arsenic price-prohibitive.

That's still a ways out, though, and Samsung is expected to have a original lineup of more mainstream (and still bang-up looking) consumer QLED 4K and 8K TVs following calendar month during a realistic CES 2021.
